Position Summary

‍ ‍

The Volunteer Attorney Program (VAP) Metro/SE Coordinator supports the Metro and Southeast regions by coordinating volunteer attorney engagement, case placement, clinic operations, outreach, and program administration. This non‑supervisory role focuses on volunteer management, relationship building, volunteer recruitment, accurate data tracking, and supporting VAP program initiatives. The Metro/SE Coordinator helps ensure effective and high‑quality delivery of volunteer‑provided legal services in alignment with SMRLS’ mission.

‍ ‍

Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement

‍ ‍

·        Assist with developing and implementing attorney recruitment strategies for the Metro and Southeast regions.

‍ ‍

·        Build and maintain relationships with volunteer attorneys, law students, and community partners.

‍ ‍

·        Support volunteer recognition and general engagement activities.

‍ ‍

Case & Clinic Coordination

‍ ‍

·        Place cases with volunteer attorneys and maintain communication with clients awaiting placement.

‍ ‍

·        Maintain accurate records of volunteer activity, case assignments, and clinic outputs.

‍ ‍

·        Coordinate and staff some VAP brief‑service clinics, including volunteer scheduling, logistics, and subject‑matter expert recruitment.

‍ ‍

·        Handle marketing and communication related to clinics and VAP programming.

‍ ‍

 

‍ ‍

Project Management

‍ ‍

·        Serve as lead project manager, with Development Coordinator, for annual Senior Fair and any other VAP special events.

‍ ‍

·        Interview, place and supervise interns from Macalester College.

‍ ‍

Program Support & Communication

‍ ‍

·        Serve as a liaison between volunteers and SMRLS staff to ensure alignment of volunteer services with practice needs.

‍ ‍

·        Represent VAP at bar associations, legal community events, and partner meetings.

‍ ‍

·        Support community education, outreach, and VAP‑related program activities.

‍ ‍

·        Provide program updates, maintain materials, and assist with information sharing.

‍ ‍

‍ ‍

Data, Reporting & Administrative Tasks

‍ ‍

·        Maintain the volunteer attorney database and program records.

‍ ‍

·        Assist in preparation of information for grant reporting to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

‍ ‍

·        Support planning, scheduling, and coordination of VAP calendars, clinics, and events.

‍ ‍

Other Duties

‍ ‍

·        Represent SMRLS and the VAP program professionally in all settings.

‍ ‍

·        Travel throughout the Metro and SE regions when necessary  for clinics, outreach, and meetings.

‍ ‍

·        Interview interns

‍ ‍

·        Perform other duties as needed to support the Volunteer Attorney Program.

‍ ‍

Required Qualifications

‍ ‍

·        Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

‍ ‍

·        Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

‍ ‍

·        Ability to work effectively with diverse communities and survivors of domestic violence.

‍ ‍

·        Public speaking skills and comfort engaging with legal professionals.

‍ ‍

·        Proficiency with email, Word, Excel, databases, and standard office software.

‍ ‍

·        Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and adapt to changing needs.

‍ ‍

Preferred Qualifications

‍ ‍

·        Experience in legal services, law firms, volunteer coordination, or similar work.

‍ ‍

·        Experience working with or supporting volunteer or pro bono programs.

‍ ‍

·        Experience with community partners, outreach, or legal community engagement.

‍ ‍

·        J.D. preferred but not required.

‍ ‍

·        Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply.

Salary: $51,588+ DOE.  Excellent Benefits provided.
