Payroll Accounting Specialist

Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services, Inc. (SMRLS) is seeking to fill a Payroll Accounting Specialist position in its Metro Region. The position is based in the St. Paul office.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Manage bi-weekly payroll processing for 100+/- staff.  Review the hour logs and pay rates for accuracy and interface this information into ADP platform.  Enroll and terminate staff from payroll records as necessary.  Manage all payroll deductions such as garnishments.  Handle all non-work reimbursements such as expenses, vacation and other leave pay. Handle AP and AR tasks for Finance department along with grant management and month end journal entries and reconciliations.  Prepare claims invoices from various benefit partners (medical, dental, etc.).  Handle annual duties such as Form 5500 reporting, WC audit, and assist with SMRLS annual audit.  Assist Director of Human Resources with all aspects of Human Resources duties, including but not limited to onboarding and offboarding (including nonvoluntary), performance management (including PIP’s), promotions and pay increases, strategic planning and budgets for new or modified jobs, writing of job descriptions, and serving as de facto company Human Resources representative in the absence of the Director.  Willingness to accept supervision and other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

-        A bachelor’s degree is preferred, but not necessary.  Accounting and Payroll experience may be used in lieu of a degree.

-        Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification strongly desired but not required.

-        5+ years’ experience with general accounting experience strongly preferred, including AP and AR, audit preparation, bank accounts and deposits, and paper check and credit card systems.

-        Experience with Netsuite is strongly preferred.

-        5+ years’ experience with ADP Workforce Now, including payroll, benefits enrollment and performance management. Must have experience in dealing with FMLA and other approved leaves of absence (vacation, holidays, bereavement, etc.)

-        Excellent skills in dealing with Excel spreadsheets is necessary.

-        2-4 years’ experience with HR hiring practices, including I-9 completion through E-Verify, onboarding and offboarding of employees.

-        Experience in benefits enrollment and management, including working with benefit providers on billing, invoicing and employee problem resolutions.

-        Experience in working with a union shop is strongly preferred.

-        Experience in handling confidential and sensitive information is required.  This will include access to budget and staff salary information and include assistance in and access to evaluations and performance management of staff, including PIP’s when necessary.  The person will have high-level access to strategic and proprietary Board-level information on organizational plans, strategy, budgets, etc., and will be expected to sign a confidentiality agreement. 

 

 

 

SALARY

Starting at $52,099+ Pursuant to scale, plus fringe benefits.
