New SMRLS Resources for Crime Victims

He had been violent before, but this time her angry ex-boyfriend came to her work, threatened to hit her, and overturned her desk. And this time, she contacted SMRLS, who helped her get a two-year protective order against him.

SMRLS is now able to help more crime victims due to a grant from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Office of Justice Programs, Crime Victim Services. This new grant has allowed SMRLS to add four new attorney positions throughout our service area, specifically to help crime victims with their family law and immigration issues.

Under this grant, SMRLS assists survivors and immigrant survivors in obtaining Orders for Protection, in dissolutions, custody and parenting time matters and in certain immigration issues.
